Tallahassee Community College announces academic promotions
Calandra Stringer, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Tallahassee Community College, has announced several promotions of candidates within the college.
Each associate dean will begin new roles on Monday:
Tricia Rizza, associate dean of faculty initiatives. As a faculty member, Rizza has served on multiple committees for institutional initiatives including High-Impact Practices, First-Year Experience and Eagle’s RISE Summer Academy.
Jennifer Russell, associate dean of healthcare professions. Russell previously served as Director of Nursing Programs. She also is a board-certified nurse practitioner. providing care for patients in the critical, acute and sub-acute care settings.
Nick Vick, associate dean of communications and humanities. Vick previously served as the director of the Learning Commons, director for the Honors Program.
Summer Dusek, associate dean of social sciences. Dusek previously served as director of the Center for Professional Enrichment at TCC. Additionally, she taught psychology and student success courses at the College as an adjunct professor.
Angelina Kuleshova, associate dean of Science and Mathematics. Kuleshova has worked as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Faculty Senate Chair-Elect, Co-Chair of the Early Alert Advisory group, and a course co-coordinator for Intermediate Algebra.
TCC names Ryan Preatto new director of Student Services
Gerald Jones, associate vice president for student affairs at TCC, has appointed Ryan Preatto director of student services.
Preatto will be oversee the Counseling Center, Student Accessibility Services, Student Emergency Relief and the Office of Student Life.
He comes to TCC from McNeese State University.
Preatto received his associate degree from Delgado Community College. Additionally, he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in criminal justice from McNeese State University.
Preatto is a member of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA), Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (ACPA) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
TCC is holding ceremony for students earning GED diplomas
Tallahassee Community Collegeis hosting a graduation ceremony for more than a dozen students receiving their GED diploma at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 22. The ceremony will be held at the Student Union Ballroom.
TCC offers course leading to financial services certifications
Tallahassee Community College’s Workforce Division is offering courses that prepare students to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exams.

FSU doctoral student to study in France onChateubriandFellowship
A Florida State University biological science doctoral student has received an international fellowship to study coral reefs and parrotfish in France this fall.
Marine ecologist Joshua Manning will use theChateubriandFellowship to collaborate with Simon Benhamou, CNRS Research Director at the Centred’EcologieFonctionnelleet Evolutive, CEFE, the largest French research center in Ecology and Evolutionary Ecology, in Montpellier, France.
The fellowship, established in 1981, is awarded by the Embassy of France to outstanding doctoral students from American universities and supports them in conducting research in France and working with French scientists.
Manning actively shares his research in both public and academic settings.
Before coming to FSU to work with Assistant Professor of Biological Science Sophie McCoy, Manning earned a bachelor’s degree in marine science from the University of Maine in 2013 and a master’s in biology from California State University Northridge in 2017.
His current research on coral reef ecology and the social behaviors of Caribbean parrotfishes in the small Caribbean island of Bonaire is conducted in collaboration with two biological science interns from FSU and the American Academy for Underwater Sciences, and he looks forward to learning from French researchers during his fellowship.
FAMU biological systems engineering student honored
Melvin Jordan,a Florida A&M University College of Agriculture and Food Sciences biological systems engineering student, was recently namedthe 2021 Outstanding Student of the Year by the Florida Section of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).
Jordan received the award during the organization's meeting and awards banquet last month.
ASABE recognizing its outstanding student members as those who excel scholastically and demonstrate community involvement through participation in local, regional, or international activities and serving in leadership positions within the organization.
Jordan is currently the president of FAMU's ASABE student chapter and he is the first student from a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to become a parliamentarian for the ASABE's Southeast Regional Student Association.
Two FAMU students earn $5,000 Crème of Nature scholarships
Two Florida A&M University students are among the 20 recipients of the Crème of Nature “Legacy to Leadership” HBCU Scholarship program.
Miles Armstrong, Xavier Hammond and each of the HBCU students from across the U.S. are slated to receive a $5,000 scholarship, which represents $100,000 in overall funding from the Creme of Nature brand.
In addition, the winners will also receive Creme of Nature products, along with being honored as part of the company’s Legacy To Leadership Virtual Celebration.
