Chicken Pot Pie Crescent Braid (2)

I love cooking from scratch, like in this Homemade Chicken Pot Pie. But, there are times – many many times – as a mom of young children, when taking short cuts is a life saver. I love that you can take short cuts in cooking and still put something on the family dinner table that you feel great about.

This Chicken Pot Pie Crescent Braid is exactly that.

Tips and Tricks

If you can’t find seamless crescent roll dough, use the kind with the seams and gently push them together before you start cutting to make the braids.

If you would rather use homemade dough, you can use my pizza dough recipe for the outside. It won’t be flakey, but it will be delicious. Brush it with a little melted butter before baking.

If you aren’t sure how to make a crescent braid, check out the video that is in the recipe card at the bottom of the post. It shows you just how to get it done.

What to Serve on the Side

This is a great delicious recipe, but you will want to serve something on the side to go with it.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

  • In a large bowl, combine the frozen veggies, cheddar cheese, and chicken. In a separate bowl mix together the cream cheese and the condensed soup. Add it to the chicken-veggie mixture.

  • Spread the crescent roll dough out on a silicon mat or parchment paper and place that on a baking pan. Leaving three inches in the middle, make cuts down the side of the dough an inch apart on both sides.

  • Spread the chicken-veggie-soup mixture down the middle of the dough. Take a strip of dough from one side and fold it over the middle mixture. Then take a strip from the other side and fold it over the middle. Continue down the dough, alternating sides until it is completely folded over.

  • Pinch the ends of the dough to keep the filling inside while it bakes.

  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes so that the top is nice and golden brown.

  • Let stand about 10 minutes before cutting in to it.

This was so lovely. I added a little garlic powder and Italian seasoning and did the egg wash on top. I don’t even like crescent rolls but this was so good. Cream cheese made the dish special.

Could I make it with puff pastry dough, or would that not work?

I think that would work! It might not look just like the picture but it would be delicious.

I have made this recipe several times but since I do not like crescent dough, I use Pepperidge Farms puff pastry sheets. I need to bake it 35 to 40 minutes to reach its golden brown color. It is delicious. Thank you for sharing.

Where is the video to make the braiding on this please? There’s 4 videos on the page. 3 are ads only (I watched them beginning to end) and the 4th is for BBQ Sauce. Do you have a link to the correct video?
    Thank you

There is a vide within the recipe card (at the bottom of the post and right above where it says “did you make this” and tells you how to share on instagram). You have to watch one ad there, and then it will show you the video for this recipe.

I’ve made this several times but I substitute the crescent roll dough with a Pepperidge Farms Puff Pastry sheet. Delicious! Love this recipe. Thank you.

Definitely would not use crescent rolls unless you want it sweet. But the filling was so good so I will try it with pastry puffs next time

I’ve made this recipe several times and my family loves it! I made it this weekend and have extra filling. I’d love to make another one and freeze it and I’m wondering if that’s an option and if so, should I bake, then freeze? Any insight would be appreciated!

Hi Jill! I actually wouldn’t do that with this recipe because of the pre-made dough. It’s just not a great product for much else besides baking right away.
