A wish can be likened to a double-edged sword, be careful what you wish for."...There are numerous golden possibilities on the way to simply grab, effortlessly journey to different nations to study and get established amidst other benefits". Nechez's father says. Her parents have attempted to persuade her, however, there has been no high quality result. Nechez had her mind sincerely made up, she wanted to become a student in a Nigerian university. She loves all what her buddies and cousins usually inform her about the universities. She decided to comply with her wish with a sense of finality.Months flew, she finished a semester however spent approximately 10 months at home before the next semester. Unfortunately, a strike occurred. Both the Academic and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities went on strike. As though, that is the norm and nature of the program, incessant strikes occurred each session. At this point, Nechez became infuriated and disappointed, she regretted her wish and action.Alongside this, she experienced high bureaucratic practices and procedures in the school system. It was appalling that students find it always difficult to enjoy certain facilities in the school nor easily go through a process without hassles and hurdles. The future didn't turn out the exact way Nechez envisaged. "The young bird does not crow until it hears the old ones." - African proverb Information is now at our fingertips and anyone can get as much as they desire. I remember when I had to spellcheck in dictionaries and encyclopedias. When I had to physically go to a library to fact check. This is now a practice so antiquated that people think you lived in the stone age if you ever mentioned experiences like that. I can now do almost everything on my phone without moving an inch. I can homeschool myself from the Internet if I am really determined to learn without reference to any teacher on a particular subject matter. Life has become so hands on that people think that they can do whatever they want without any advice or additional knowledge from those who have gone before them. We see self-taught individuals all over the Internet trying to teach others matters in which they have just head knowledge without any experiential backup. Knowledge is good but without experience it can be dangerous. Knowledge has to be tried and tested by the individual for them to know what actually works and how circumstances can affect the outcome of certain areas of knowledge. When dealing with youths who are savvy in the use of the of modern day technology, they first seem to have it all together until they bump into roadblocks that only life experiences can help us navigate. People who have come up with life principles that help us navigate our own journeys have done so through practical lessons that they learnt on their own journey. These principles will make it easier for us to use the information at our disposal to our advantage and shorten the time required to undertake our own journey. When we pay attention to what those who have gone before us have to say, we do ourselves a huge favour. However, the younger generation usually feel that because they are living in a time of better technological enhancement, they have better wisdom. Smartness without experiencial knowledge can be lopsided. When people assume that they are too smart to learn from those who have gone before them, it can become a costly mistake. No matter how much we know, it is always an advantage to sit with people who have successfully undertaken a journey and learn the nuts and bolts. Do have a beautiful day ! Make today a day to remember by the depth of knowledge you decide to acquire. Make sure you properly engage your mind. Read more at https://lnkd.in/dFZzbJyK

What is it like making friends at University? Is it as simple as our school or college life friendships? Humans differentiate themselves from other living beings by forging meaningful relationships among themselves, such as friendship. And the friendships we make are multifaceted, especially when we enter University life. Supportive and selfless friends are more of a rarity here; but when we do befriend them, University life appears euphoric. On the other hand, being friends with the opposite types may spell nightmare for undergrads. To further explore the intricacies of undergrad friendships, give a read to this compelling blog by Jarraf Rahman Rasha. A big shout-out to Nusaiba Binte Anisforthevisual.

#teacherstudent#relationships#guidinglightTeachers Day and Gokulashtami are nicely merging into each other, which perhaps sets up a segue to talk about Lord Krishna and his role as a teacher. One of the most interesting aspects of the narration of the Bhagvad Gita saga, is how the perception of Krishna transforms in Arjunaโs eyes.Arjuna has known Krishna all his life. The flute wielding charmer has been his cousin and closest friend. He has also counselled him before.Yet, at the moment of Arjunaโs most critical existential crisis, Krishna becomes the greatest teacher he has ever had. This, even before the โVishvarupaโ moment, which renders one of the most emphatic retorts to โWhy must you listen to me?โ.Thereโs a saying, โwhen the student is ready, the teacher will appearโ.And this is a classic case.Often, we think at such times, we need to seek a teacher. And that quest will be long and arduous, and involve the approval of several conveyance vouchers. We think that this elusive mentor, will emerge from beyond our present experience and interaction set.But that person might be someone we have always known-a parent, a sibling, a relative, a friend, a co-worker, even an acquaintance. Our inner tumult, which is causing us to be in a state of discomfort, might also cause a transformation in them.It might uncover a guiding light-something which might have always been their calling, without sometimes even their own knowledge.Perhaps the teacher needs the student for their own development, as much as the other way around. It is only when this โduality of necessityโ is kindled, the chariots of our life are steered along the right paths.

In my previous post I talked about the importance of college societies and how they can boost oneโs cv and personality. But everything has two sides(positive and negative), so do these societies.Letโs discuss this in detail:You see not all that glitter is gold, not everything that you read, listen or see is true, itโs just the carefully curated version that they choose to show you or in short just to make a fool out of you! Some societies have INNER POLITICS AND TOXICITIES which can ruin your hard work and dedication and the efforts you had put in that society but what is exactly running these inner politics and toxicities, let me break it down for you.At times students donโt get positions in the society even after working hard enough but why, any guesses? My acquaintances and some close ones have faced this problem already, the reason is simple because they have recruited their friends or known ones already but are those people deserving โNOโ and this is the harsh reality, imagine all your expectations getting ruined because your heads just played POLITICS AND FRIENDSHIP CARDS.Here's a pro tip, before joining a society do research well about it and most importantly ask your seniors especially third years. Also do prioritize your own goals, studies and other stuffs, donโt get too much involved in these societies. Just for an example during exam season you know well what should be your priority, studying! Luckily in my society, Connecting Dreams Foundation - Satyawati Chapter thereโs no such thing as toxicity and inner politics. I consider myself lucky here, that I got such supporting heads, this society is everything a student can ask for in the terms of an ideal society.#universityofdelhi #collegelife #societies #Reality #linkedinforcreators

The 2nd workshop continues to share our life stories, and we focus more on sharing life stories as a strategy this time finding similarities, and not differentiating the role between the interviewer and the interviewee. And this time we are more connected by realizing the similar challenges and experiences we face!! One more important point to note is not to generalize the whole non-Chinese students' group as one particular community, and each individual has different life paths and passions related to their academic life, we should be more aware to care for different needs of each individuals!! And it requests our mentality change with the limited resources we have.https://lnkd.in/gVCsVjCN

HOW MY TEACHER'S INFLUENCE ALTERED THE COURSE OF MY LIFEI often talk about how before now i didn't know anything; Not in the sense of having a completely empty mind, but rather, I didn't know enough of what I should have known and had no clue about what was necessary. I was sincerely ignorant.I grew up in an environment that pressures you to think you know something even when you don't. I grew up warri. And you know the drill, 'Warri nor dey carry last' - it's a survival-of-the-fittest kind of place. You had to be bold and act confident, or else you would be taken advantage of. Showing weakness or emotions wasn't an option; you had to appear strong. 'No gree for anybody' wasn't just a trend for us; it was our way of life. So, people masked their inexperience and innocence with loud voices and attitude, giving off the perception that they were bold and confident. They concealed their lack of knowledge with a false sense of relevance and association. People who knew nothing acted as if they knew everything. But fast forward to a point in my life where I met this guy who thankfully disrupted my thinking and introduced me to broader and better ways of thinking. I had written about my experience with him earlier when I was putting this write-up together, but my phone unexpectedly wiped off all I had written, so I will share my experience with him in detail another time. Anyway, he expanded my perspective on life, and I found myself wanting to be more and do more.I believe many young people for the least have desires to be better and are quite intentional about their lives, but often their vision and perspective on life are flawed due to their past experiences and environment. Their minds and visions has been maligned and attacked on many levels. They have been taught to see foolishness as wisdom, mediocrity as greatness, and to pursue the wrong things in life. This affects true accurate productivity and positive impact on society. This part of my life instructs me always on a number of things;1. There are many young people out there who sincerely lack knowledge and need guidance to set their perspectives and priorities in life by exposing them to the right information.2. Topics like leadership, purpose, self-awareness, self-development, mind engineering, emotional intelligence, and more should be taught more to young people to help shape their learning and transformation.3. We owe it to the next generation to expand their view of life because they often can't dream or see beyond their history without external disruption.4. Everyone needs the miracle of strategic people and relevant information.5. Lastly, you can make a real-time plan to commit to finding and educating the young ones around you. Don't just meet them and leave them the same way. Seek to inspire and train them. "We shape Africa's future through our actions today. Take responsibility, invest in growth, inspire others, and nurture positive change."

Helping schools show up in their authentic selves through digital storytelling ๐ | Attracting international students to the schools that are JUST RIGHT for growing their happiness and success ๐ฑ

It's been three weeks since I launched the WeChat account and LinkedIn account for my school cluster clients in Auckland.I sat down with myself this afternoon, having a bit reflection. The experience of the last three weeks has been mind blowing for me.There were voices coming to me from both sides, New Zealand and China.I heard a mom telling me that she valued being practical in life, gaining real-life experiences in the society and thinking about career plans early on.I passed on the story to my clients. Then I heard from one client, "I like her."I told the story of how our schools build the 'sunshine-like' confidence that Chinese parents observed in our students during their trips. I talked about our schools using the holistic approach for the students' development and coaching them to work on their lives with independent thinking. Then I heard from a mom, "I have been thinking about how to improve my child's confidence. Thank you for sharing!"They are talking, Chinese parents and New Zealand schools, from one side of the globe to the other side. I am sitting here, passing on the words, translating, facilitating, hosting.I love the job I'm doing! And it's not just a business to me.I never had the schooling I needed when I was a teenager. My talent was crushed. My life force was drained. My voice was muted. I lost my authentic self. The bigger problem was, I didn't understand what was going on in me.I worked hard. I had good grades. I didn't cause any trouble. I was a good kid. I wasn't on the adults' radar. But deep inside, I was broken. When I entered adulthood, my schooling experience during teenage time became the root of my unhappiness. And it took me years to heal it.Today, I work with schools. I help them find their authentic selves and communicate on it. I help them attract the students who just need a school like this. They are just right for each other. I want these teenagers to be able to live in their authentic selves, to have their voices, to blossom in their life force, and to live in their zone of genius.I love what I'm doing!๐ ---I'm Lin. I do digital marketing for schools.๐ I help your school identify your unique strengths and personality, and discover your real-life stories through semi-structured interviews.๐ฑ I help your school set up your WeChat, LinkedIn, Little Red Book, and Bilibili accounts, and get your voice across the globe.โ๏ธ I help your school create visibility and build the Recruitment Funnel from attention, to inquiry, to short-term recruitment, to long-term recruitment, to families becoming your advocate.I'm Lin. "Teaching has truly been a profoundly humbling journey in my life, and I've come to believe that sharing knowledge is an infallible act. On this 'World Teachers' Day,' take a moment to acknowledge and applaud yourself for the invaluable gift you provide, whether to the young or the young at heart. Some may not yet witness the fruits of your labor, while others bask in the daily recognition and gratitude. However, the truth is, your unwavering dedication to imparting wisdom is what truly matters.Let's recall the book of Luke 6:38, 'Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.'So keep giving, because your knowledge's impact is immeasurable, and God has a beautiful way of reciprocating your generosity. One of the ways to stay consistent is to improve and increase in knowledge, this means you have to be a part of the present Series 2.0 cohort where we will speak on "Practical Insight in Grant Winning and Execution" on the 8th, of October, 2023. That way you have a new experience and new knowledge to share to increase your value. On navigating academic relationships (or it takes two to tango).A friend recently reached out to me.They had been in a meeting and blamed for an untoward event. They felt this was a broader pattern of blame, that was pervading their academic life. They asked, what should I do?I paused. This was not a simple question.I asked, how long has this gone on?They filled me in on details of their effort to repair the relationship and discover the cause of the problems. They had run into a stone wall.I asked, if you can't repair the relationship, what are your options? They opined to do nothing or move.I replied, the former is appealing, but have you actively considered the second? They asked why?I opined, because if the other person is not willing to work with you, then it is time to move on. And.If you have options, then pursue them. It did not mean that you had to leave, it meant that you had the comfort of knowing that you can leave if you want to.But.Don't wait for the other person to come around. Fixing academic relationships doesn't work if the other person isn't willing to work with you.Because.In academic life, finding your happiness is up to you.#academiclife #academiccareers .
