Tier list of every single calamity boss (with explanations) (2024)

Time to provide my thoughts, I agree with most of this but some of it is dead wrong from my existence.

LudicrousFPS said:

The Leviathan and Anahita - I just love this boss. The concept is unique (can't be said for a lot of calamity bosses lmao), the bosses look amazing, the fight is pretty good, and the music is awesome.

It also helps that Anahita is a simp magnet

. All of these factors

including the last one

combined make it #1 on the list.

I love levi but I don't find it the best, that goes to Slime God and Cryogen.

LudicrousFPS said:

Yharon - If Levi + Anahita didn't exist, then this would be my favorite.
This is a massive lie that I believed in my ranger playthrough because anti-material rifle is busted. Yharon is hard, but not frustrating hard. The fight is really enjoyable, especially when you replace platforms with rails as recommended. Volt Climax also makes the fight a lot better because you feel like an actually good player instead of someone who's ass at the game. And of course, we can't forget "the enemy ascended beyond your control", the only joke that r/calamitymod knows how to make. Overall, very good experience.

THE ENEMY ASCENDED BEYOND YOUR CONTROL
But other than that, true.

LudicrousFPS said:

Hive Mind - Another truly great boss that I have had a lot of fun fighting. The music is also a banger. Principle reason why I pick corruption over crimson.

Hive Mind has always been meh for me. It's a good fight, but feels too easy? On my malice playthrough I beat it first try, which is very rare.

LudicrousFPS said:

Plaguebringer Goliath - Yep, I'm going to say it: PBG is a fun boss. I see a lot of people hate on PBG because it's frustrating/too hard. A lot of these issues are because of too much platforms, not enough room, too little vertical speed, or not learning how to dodge diagonal dashes (which imo are easier to avoid than regular dashes). Avoid these issues and PBG goes from frustrating to an enjoyable boss.

PBG deserves more love. Unfortunately, Malice did it very little justice.

LudicrousFPS said:

Providence - I have been fortunate enough to never struggle on this boss. Twice I have beaten her in less than 10 attempts. That's why this boss is a lot higher than you may expect. It might be because I'm better with bullet hells than dash bosses (though that doesn't explain why PBG is so high idk either bro).

**** PROVIDENCE I SWEAR TO ****ING GOD
WHAT MASOCHIST DECIDED MALICE PROVIDENCE DECIDED NEEDED TO BE NIGHTTIME PROVIDENCE WHAT THE ****

LudicrousFPS said:

Aquatic Scourge - I had a tough time deciding whether this should go in "amazing" or "good", but in the end I chose good because amazing should be for the best of the best. This boss isn't as annoying as other worm bosses, wow! Also has a good theme, and a naturally spawned AQ is a great fishing buddy.

AS is... ugh, I forget about it half the time. Not bad, just forgettable.

LudicrousFPS said:

Cal Clone - A very good boss. I haven't played much of the reworked version, but from my experience it makes it better (though the endless dashing at <10% might be a bit annoying). Banger theme really helps too.

Malice Cal Clone is actual hell on earth. The second bullet hell is hard as all ****, the brothers melt through me with Stars Above, and the dashing is faster than I am.
I don't like it.

LudicrousFPS said:

Cryogen- This boss and AQ helped me prepare for the projectile ****spam of later bosses, and for that I'm grateful. It enrages outside the snow, but that's nothing that Fargo fountains can't fix. And once you do have a good snow arena, the boss becomes a lot easier because you can maneuver around the ice bombs better. I also have Arctic Reinforcement on loop in my snow outpost base because banger theme.

Cryo is my favorite boss, theme is banger and it does a good job of introducing the player to Calamity Hardmode.

LudicrousFPS said:

Skeletron - Good boss, especially when you have a lot of room. Pretty enjoyable. Not much else to say.

Skeletron is nice, no comment.

LudicrousFPS said:

Desert Scourge - Without a dash, this boss is not fun, especially with those dumb ****ing mini scourges without map icons. With a dash, it becomes a lot better. Yeah that's all I have to say.

**** Malice DS. I really can't do it without getting insanely good RNG with its AI.

LudicrousFPS said:

Supreme Calamitas (outdated image because this tierlist was made pre 1.5) - I like this boss. I really do. It's challenging but not bull****, the theme is just something else, and the visuals post 1.5 are really good. So why so low?
Well, I like this boss until I actually play it.

Tier list of every single calamity boss (with explanations) (1)

81 deaths on death mode.... ugh.
She probably deserves to be bumped up a few places because they nerfed her health, but I haven't really played around with that so for now, this is her spot.

Scal is something else. 81 deaths is nothing tho, I have that on Providence

LudicrousFPS said:

The Twins - Best Mech. Yes you heard that right. The fight is actually fun and not complete bull**** like a certain mech (*looks at destroyer*). Not much else going for it though, which is why it barely falls to Alright tier.

Finally, a based player.

LudicrousFPS said:

Brimstone Elemental - Simp magnet aside, this boss is fairly good. A small arena in my first playthrough caused me to hate her, but a bigger one in my second made me realize this boss is not that bad at all. It can be annoying when she spams cocoon over and over, but I think they fixed that in 1.5.
Also I hate grinding her over and over for the rose stone for the HoTE which bumps her down a bit

Brimmy's not bad yeah, no comments

LudicrousFPS said:

Devourer of Gods - I used to despise this boss. It took me like 50+ attempts in death to kill him, and 100% of those deaths were due to the fair and balanced instakill head. They removed that in 1.5, so based on that alone this boss gets saved from the depths of the "horrible" tier.

Polterghast - Can your weapon go through walls? In my rev ranger playthrough, I use seadragon and it took me 40+ attempts. In my death playthrough, I used divine retribution and it took... 1 attempt. I chose to use a donut arena, so fighting polter was a lot more different than fighting other bosses.

Fair and balanced mechanics on full display.

LudicrousFPS said:

Eater of Worlds - Spams vile spit, but it's destroyable so it's not as bad as you first think. Large arena and you're good.

Eye of Cthulhu - Fairly good. Actually requires thought unlike King Slime.

Skeletron Prime - I don't really know where to rank it, but at least it's not the Destroyer.

Plantera - Death mode makes her fast as **** which is annoying, but at least it's not just brainless circling. Pretty epic theme though.

Queen Bee - Fairly good boss, but she kept spawning while I was fighting provi in hell because a stray divine retribution projectile flew off into the jungle and hit a larva (this happened like 4 times).

King Slime - Teleportations and the crown jewel make it a bit more thought that just running in a straight line. Also drops the best mount in the game.

Malice Mode Plant is rather weird, Malice Mode King Slime may or may not have taken me 1.5 hours, but other than that no comments.

LudicrousFPS said:

Wall of Flesh - With one platform it's a nightmare. With 2 (most easily accessible using the double obsidian instabridge from Fargos), it becomes a rhythm game. Not much else to say.

WoF isn't even that bad with 1 platform (on malice anyway)

LudicrousFPS said:

Golem - The guaranteed large arena does wonders. Pop adrenaline/rage when 2nd phase head appears or you're going to be dealing with a teleporting nuisance that not even homing can save you from.

YES GOLEM IS SO NICE

LudicrousFPS said:

It's so hard that I did it in my first attempt! And then I did it again off camera!
I think this video does a good job of demonstrating that slime god is really... easy. Get a big enough arena, a decent weapon, enough speed, and then... you just win. You don't even have to reforge for speed or something like that, regular lightning boots will do. And if you feel like you're cheesing the boss, you can just turn around and run the other way!!! So much skill!!!

now do it on malic- it wasn't hard on malice
i take that statement back

LudicrousFPS said:

Ceaseless Void - I don't have much experience with the reworked version yet, so I don't know where to rank it. The Dark Energies now spawn around CV instead of just chasing you, which is interesting and makes the fight less of a circling simulator. Also the V section of Servants of the Scourge is the best section so CV gets points for that.

CV is still ****ing annoying even after rework. In fact its probably more annoying.

LudicrousFPS said:

Ravager - Exists. Pretty forgettable. Fight is not that bad though.

Good for farming.

LudicrousFPS said:

points for that.

Crabulon - Funky music. I never fight this boss on tier. Moving on.

Astrum Aureus - Lots of projectiles. Those astral spawn have a massive ****ing explosion radius and will **** you up.

Dragonfolly - Lightning feather spam, lots of charges, I hate doing this on tier, moving on.

Signus - Imagine Brimmy but not a waifu, not fun at all, and fast as ****. Not my idea of a good time.

No comments, Dragonfolly gave me minimal trouble tho

LudicrousFPS said:

Old Duke - I hate predictive charges. In fact I just hate this boss in general. Not really anything wrong with the boss itself, it's just that I suck at it, which is why I never do it on tier.

It's a pain in the **** to summon which is why I don't like it.

LudicrousFPS said:

Astrum Deus - The bane of potato PCs everywhere. This worm just spams **** at you, and then it splits into two for double the spam. Fun.

Astrum Deus more like Astrum FPS drop
Although, if you use The Stars Above it leads to a rather interesting canonical connection

LudicrousFPS said:

Moon Lord - Probably should go at the bottom of "meh" tier, but the lack of good pre ml options as a mage made me hate this boss a lot. It's an endurance test that I hate.

Swarmer+Plague Hive.

LudicrousFPS said:

Lunatic Cultist - I am embarrassed to say I die to this boss. Maybe a bit too much. I just don't like this fight, the tiny ****er is too small for my 2 braincells to hit without homing.

Ok but Vesuvius absolutely melted through him like cheese so I don't see an issue

LudicrousFPS said:

Destroyer - Laser spam! That's the entire ****ing fight! Nothing but laser spam and probes that make the laser spam even worse! And then it becomes a god damn wyvern because **** you! I'm telling you, I don't care how great your modded difficulty is, it's impossible to make this ****ty boss fun.

Storm Weaver - Take the description of the Destroyer and replace "lasers" with "lightning that does a **** ton of damage and inflicts electrified". and remove the part about the probes. Now you have an accurate description of Storm Weaver.

Fun fact: Malice Mode Destroyer has ONLY electric lasers!!!! FUN GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
But yes.

LudicrousFPS said:

Duke Fishron - I have never beaten this boss on tier. I have sunk probably 50+ attempts, and I still haven't beat this boss on tier. I understand that I'm just garbage and this is an actually good fight, but this is my tier list and I can do whatever the hell I want. **** this boss. The 3rd phase starting at 40% just ****s me over really hard. And then, at 20%, he changes his dash pattern! And if you're in death, he dashes non stop faster than you can dash! Is that your idea of a good time? Maybe, but it's not mine.

On malice he is a nightmare. I don't like him.

LudicrousFPS said:

Corruption is better than crimson. That's a fact. Corruption has all the good bosses, which automatically means that the crimson bosses suck.

Brain of Cthulhu - I have never fought this boss except in boss rush where it dies instantly. All I know is that it's a ***** to no-hit because haha funnee telefrag.

Perforators - 3 worm bosses in one, what joy! And wait, if you call now, we'll add in a budget Cryogen too! Yeah I've never fought this boss except in boss rush, and I intend for it to stay that way.

I like Brain in normal play, dislike Perfs.
